I am Starting a Digital Marketing Agency and Here’s Why

by Deepak Kanakaraju on August 22, 2017

Recently I announced on my Facebook page that I am going to start a digital marketing agency. Some of my friends were not sure why I am doing it because I make a LOT of revenue from the sales of my courses already. Not everyone wants to start a digital marketing agency because it involves meetings with clients, following up with payments, having a physical office space and having employees who work full time in the company.

As bloggers, many people choose to live the laptop lifestyle. They sell information and tools online, have a huge email list and prefer to have the freedom of travel. I do have such desires, no doubt in it. But, I don’t think I will be a successful blogger and trainer in the digital marketing space if I keep travelling and keep selling information products.

The Ultimate Guide to Content Marketing

by Deepak Kanakaraju on August 13, 2017

Content marketing takes the priority in digital marketing compared to all the other modules. There is no doubt in that. It forms the foundation of all digital marketing activities. But good content doesn’t perform on its own without marketing. Good Content Marketing is about creating great content and also marketing it in the right way.

I’ve been blogging for more than 10 years now and in this blog post, I want to share my learning and experiences on content marketing. We will cover 3 major areas:

  • Why content marketing?
  • The different types of content and…
  • The most common content delivery formats.

Let’s get started…

Why Content Marketing?

Before we get to the why – we need to look back a little about the history of content marketing. If you thought content marketing is a recent addition to the ‘tactics of marketing’, you would be wrong.

Content marketing is hundreds of years old and one of the oldest form of marketing that has existed. Not to mention, storytelling is one of the oldest forms of communication and also is a form of content marketing. Stories have been traditionally used to communicate values and establish brands.

The Future of SEO: Long Tail Keywords

by Deepak Kanakaraju on July 31, 2017

Getting traffic from the search engines is a great way to scale website traffic, for free. The quality of the visitors are high and it doesn’t cost like paid ads. But the biggest challenge for marketers is getting good rankings on the search result pages.

Getting good rankings for competitive keywords is extremely hard. The website needs to have a good domain authority and relevant backlinks from trusted sources. That cannot be created overnight.

However, you need not wait forever to start tapping into high-quality search engine traffic for your relatively new website. Instead of trying to rank for short-tail keywords, rank for long-tail keywords. You will start ranking faster, because there is less competition in the long tail.

What I Learned From Starting My Own Hosting Service

by Deepak Kanakaraju on July 27, 2017

I had started a hosting service as an experiment a few months back. Though I knew that it wasn’t an easy business to run, I just wanted to do it because I wondered how the business worked and wanted to learn more about it.

Hosting services are in high demand, many companies are targeting this market, and they pay huge affiliate commissions. I never understood how they could pay such huge commissions esp. when there are so many overheads. Starting and running my hosting service for a short time helped my understand the intricacies of the business model.

A few years back I started a group on Facebook called Learn Digital Marketing. It started with a few members and grew to a few hundred in the first few weeks. Today it has 56,000+ members and is the largest digital marketing group in India.

The initial set of members were from my network. But instead of waiting for people to discover and join the group, I followed a few key promotional strategies to increase the membership.

In this article, I want to share some of the strategies that I used to grow this group. But before we dive into the promotional strategies, let’s look at the benefits of having a group on Facebook.
