Hello and Welcome Pooja!
Let us begin with your unique story, could you please share that with us?
Sure, I was born in Pune and have been here all my life. I consider my parents and my brother as my role models, and they have been supportive and empowering. Honestly, I was not guided or counselled too well before choosing my bachelor’s, and I jumped on the bandwagon and did what everyone around me was doing — computer engineering. I took a gap year, and my parents suggested I go and spend this time off with my brother in the States. My brother works as an investment banker in New York and has lived there for seventeen years now.
On this trip, back in 2008, he would leave me off at the malls and hand me a 10$ each time. In that era, we didn’t have smartphones, so I explored the stores, analyzed the business models, the products, fashion, apparel, and I was intrigued. I particularly liked an all accessories store named Claire’s, they always had some offers like buy 10 for 10$. I binged on these sales. By the time I returned to India, I had purchased items worth 15 grand. I did some research and decided to sell these via online mediums. At that time, we just had Facebook and Blackberry messenger. My father, being a businessman, taught me all the banking methods — IMPS to NEFT. He taught me techniques to deal with customers and how to close deals. The concept was a hit, at least in my inner circle. I sold the entire inventory within three months.
At the age of 19, I realized that I have an entrepreneurial streak to me and that my heart lies in marketing. However, I continued my engineering and cleared with a first-class.
I started looking out for jobs in the same field, more in-line with my interests, and I got a job at Extentia Information Technology as a Marketing Executive. I managed the social media presence of the brand, digital marketing campaigns, Google Analytics, ATL/BTL marketing activities. I got the opportunity to mentor over 65 International interns from diverse cultures and countries like Egypt, Morocco, Russia, Germany, Tunisia, Nigeria, America, Indonesia, and more. The 4.5 years at Extentia have been incredibly instrumental in defining my career path, giving me a solid foundation.
Currently, I have been working as a Digital marketing manager in a US-based product company — Zoomifier corporation. Here, I plan and execute the digital journeys of potential consumers. The product is a one-stop solution that simplifies digital selling and helps businesses close more deals, faster.
It enables and empowers the sales teams with a digital library, stunning presentations, instantaneous video conferencing, and real-time, actionable analytics.
As a person, I am an extrovert, enthusiastic, energetic, and love interacting with people. My curious nature keeps me on my toes. I am an avid explorer and a traveller — always wanting to do more and be more. To do my bit to give back to society, I have taken the responsibility of educating my helper’s daughter till graduation. I wish to sponsor another boy child’s education. LinkedIn Profile
According to you, what’s the best way to start the day?
The best way to start is to spring out of bed and have some warm water. Avoid social media or cell phone notifications for about 2 hours after you wake up and you are good.
Who is or has been your inspiration?
My brother, my cousin, both are self-made and have made it very big in life from scratch. I look up to their way of living and they inspire me.
What makes digital marketing different from traditional marketing?
Traditional Marketing is getting obsolete. Nowadays, everything is going digital. The web is a whole new world. Due to covid, there are more eye-balls on the digital platform, so it only makes sense to be present across these mediums and do marketing on each one of them.
What are your three favourite digital marketing tools?
I love Google Analytics, Hootsuite used to be good but now very robust, I like Grammarly for my content. Yep, these 3 pretty much!
How would you define success in your career?
If I am able to solve a problem which is out there, if my work makes a difference then that’s a successful career. Be the solution. Also, if you are a shoe polisher, be the best shoe polisher in the world. Similarly, I aspire to be the best social media marketer.
What is your biggest dream in life?
To have a successful eCommerce business.
What’s worth spending more on to get the best?
Spend time on content, build a strategy and then spend on Ads after organic methods are saturated.
Lastly, would you like to say something to our readers?
Digital Marketing is changing the world. I wish each one of you is on top of their game and is staying updated with the new ways to leverage the businesses. If not, buckle up and get up to speed with the trends and techniques. Define a good digital journey and an experience for your users because it is all about the experience and how you actively engage with them. Also, be consistent at it. Be a good storyteller and your content will be a hit.
