Hello and Welcome, Vivek!

Let us begin with your unique story, could you please share that with us?

I started my digital marketing career in January 2011. It was quite difficult to get a job at that moment due to the recession in the IT Sector.

I had applied for a web developer post in Getit Info services Pvt Ltd (Later named as askme.com). The HR manager called me and said we only have one position for a web developer. If you are willing to join as a Digital Marketing Ad-Ops Team member, then let us know. We are ready to offer you that position.

I did not know about the role. Upon asking I was informed, I would need to work on Google AdWords, Facebook ads and cater to client needs in other platforms.

I accepted the offer, first month, went on very well as I had joined as a junior specialist. Around April the same year, one of my seniors resigned, the workload and responsibility both increased for me. I learnt a lot about digital marketing. On how to optimize campaigns in Google Adwords and Facebook. How to execute promotional SMS, email campaigns and much more. After spending around four years and eleven months, I quit this job, due to some organizational changes.

I took a break for a couple of months and started looking for a job again. I joined Social beat in February 2016 as digital advertising specialist. Before joining them, I only knew to run campaigns. But, in the last five years, I have learnt a lot especially programmatic ads, Colombia, Taboola, Yahoo, and more. Apart from advertising platforms, I also learnt client management, communication, and presentation skills. I am now AVP – Paid Media and Programmatic, Social Beat. LinkedIn Profile

What makes digital marketing different from traditional marketing?

There are many things, ROI – Reach – Results – Interaction Etc. The world has changed into a digital domain. We perform a lot of our daily activities online, from reading the newspaper to banking. Due to the growth of the digital age, marketers should start investing in digital campaigns. Though the traditional market has its audience, it is decreasing due to the digital world. We live in a world where it is essential to have a website and use the internet to engage with the audience. Hence, businesses should carry on their traditional promotion but also ensure that they are present digitally and are planning on expanding their online presence. With digital marketing, we can measure the impact, whereas, with traditional marketing, we cannot.
